Our History
The Church of God Movement, with U.S. offices in Anderson, Indiana, began in 1881 as a movement proclaiming salvation in Christ alone, the unity of all Believers, and the holiness of God’s people. The Movement forsakes denominational hierarchies and formal creeds, trusting solely in the Holy Spirit as its overseer, and in the Bible as its statement of belief. Today, the Movement spans the globe with almost 8,000 churches in 89 countries, of which 2,000 churches are located in the US. We invite you to learn more about the Church of God’s history and beliefs.
In the summer of 1895, two young pastors traveled from the midwest to the Pacific Northwest intent on bringing the Gospel to the “Columbia Territory,” which today is known as the state of Washington. James Bamford focused on the communities west of the Cascades while George Bailey did the same in the eastern part of the state. In 1990 the two districts merged to form The Pacific Northwest Association (PNA) of the Church of God which today networks 40 congregations in Washington, northern Idaho, and northeastern Oregon. Our administrative offices are located in Yakima, Washington.
